Lisbon hosted a pair of track meets last week, and the Lion boys won titles at both.
The Lions won the Lisbon Opener on Tuesday, April 9, with 155 team points (Mount Vernon was second with 140.5). Lisbon also won the Lisbon Invitational on Thursday, April 11 with 179.5 points, with Alburnett second with 120.5 points.
“We ran guys in different events over the two days and continued to take good steps forward as a team,” Lisbon Coach Lonnie Speidel said.
On Tuesday, the Lions won seven events, including the 4×100 and 4×400 relays. Winning individual gold: Daylin Schaefer (long jump), Mason Lehmer (high jump), Cole Butteris (400), Gage Holub (110 hurdles) and Baylor Speidel (200).
On Thursday, the Lions won 10 events. Jonah Reiling (shot put, discus) and Holub (110 hurdles, 400 hurdles) were double individual winners. Also earning individual gold: Speidel (100), Teague Krob (800), and Dakota Clark (200).
Lisbon also won the 4×100, 4×200 and shuttle hurdle relays.
The Mount Vernon boys finished second Tuesday.
“It was great to get a lot of our younger guys some competition and our older guys were able to do races they don’t normally do,” Mount Vernon Coach Ryan Whitman said.
On the girls side, Mount Vernon won the Open, and Lisbon won the Invitational.
“It was such a beautiful night to compete and the meet was extremely well run, too,” Mount Vernon coach Kory Swart said.
The Mustangs put up a top time in the shuttle hurdle (1:07.76) with Elsa Appleton, Eastin Whisner, Olivia Haverback and Chloe Meester.
The Mustangs ended up winning every relay but the 4×400, which they were second to Tipton by about two seconds.
Individual gold medal winners for the Mustangs included Elsa Appleton (long jump, 100 hurdles), Sydney Maue (high jump), Libby Dix (shot put, discus), and Caliana Whitaker (100).
Lisbon finished with 99 points Tuesday without any winners. Mykala Luzum-Selmon was second in the high jump and Addy Happel was runner-up in the 200. Plus, the spirnt medley, 4×100 and 4×200 all took silver.
“Every girl on our roster contributed for us this week,” Lisbon coach Brett Epperly said. “It was very busy, but fun.”

MV boys fourth at Benton
The Mount Vernon boys’ track team finished fourth Thursday, April 11, at the Benton Invitational, a 15-team meet.
“It was windy, but we had a talk with the guys about competing and they came out and did well,” Whitman said.
Mount Vernon only won one event – Grady Olberding in the 1,600 – but amassed plenty of points.
