Mount Vernon has 11 students that will be performing for All-State Individual Speech Festival at the University of Northern Iowa Monday, March 25.
A speech showcase will be held Sunday, March 24, beginning at 2 p.m. at Lisbon Heritage Hall in Lisbon.
Charlie Krob will perform acting piece “Hurricane Diane” in the 10 a.m. block at Center 2 (Ballroom B in Maucker Union). Guest critic for the center is Carl Lindberg of Des Moines Area Community College. Cait O’Connor will perform solo improvisation at the All-State festival at the 3 p.m. block in Center 2 as well.
Kaleigh Kirton will perform radio news announcing in the 10 a.m. block in Center 4 (Interpreter’s Theatre in Lang Hall, Room 40). Guest judge for the room will be Laryssa Leone of Channel 5 WEAREIOWA.
Cyrus Johnson will perform expository address ““How to Be Like a Penguin,” in the 11:30 a.m. block at Center 6 (Lang Hall Auditorium). Guest critic for the room is Spencer Waugh of Simpson College.
Natalie Thuerauf will perform literary program “The Desire to be Perfect” in the 1:30 block of Center 7 (Georgian Lounge, The Commons). Guest critic for the room is Clara Lopez Ortiz of the Dubuque Foundation. Norah Weber will also perform poetry “TBD” in the 1:30 block of Center 7.
Edith Dawson will perform spontaneous speaking in the 10 a.m. block of Center 9 (Lang Hall TV Studio). Guest critic for the room is Michael Peitz, Iowa High School Speech Association Hall of Fame member.
Claire Thuerauf will perform poetry “Space” in the 10 a.m. block of Center 11 (Commons Ballroom, The Commons). Guest critic for the room is Debra Marquart, Iowa Poet Laureate and professor at Iowa State University.
Kylie Pyatt will perform original oratory “Get Involved, but Breathe” in the 3 p.m. block at Center 12 (Oak Room, Maucker Union). Guest critic for the room is JJ Kapur from CulturAll.
Skye Rodman will perform solo musical theater piece “The Birthday Song,” in the 1:30 p.m. block at Center 13 (Strayer Wood Main House, Strayer Wood Theatre). Guest critic is Karoline Myers of Des Moines Performing Arts Center.
Chester Rood will perform poetry piece “The The Impotence of Proofreading” in the 1:30 p.m. block at Center 14 (Scholarship Space, Rod Library). Guest critic is Mary Fasse Shaw, Iowa High School Speech Association Hall of Fame member.
