Mac Graves notched her team leading 26th win of the year as Cornell’s women’s tennis team downed Maryville College 7-2, Sunday at the Van Der Meer tennis center in South Carolina.
The Rams swept doubles against the Scots claiming victories from No. 1 pair M. Graves & Makayla Johnson, (8-5), No. 2 tandem Tansy Graves & Ashley Mink (8-3), and No. 3 duo Audrey Small & Isabella Wallin (8-3).
Cornell claimed straight-set victories in four singles matches. T. Graves blanked her opponent at No. 1 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2, M. Graves won 7-5, 6-3, earning her team leading 16th singles win of the season. Small clinched the match for the Rams with a 6-0 7-5 win at No. 3, while Ashley Mink downed her opponent 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6.
Earlier in the weekend, the Rams split two duals, winning against JWU 9-0 and losing to Penn State-Harrisburg 5-4.
The Rams swept all nine bouts against JWU, including Ashley Mink’s tight two set battle (7-6, 7-5) at No. 5. Tansy Graves/Mink, Small/Wallin, and Ashley Drake/Kaylee Hillyard all posted decisive wins in the three doubles matches. Mac Graves, Small, Wallin, Johnson & Drake were also straight set winners in singles respectively.
A back and forth afternoon dual against Penn-State Harrisburg went the distance. Small/Wallin were the lone doubles point for the Rams at No. 3, claiming an 8-4 victory.
In tightly contested singles battle, four of the six singles matches went to third set super breakers. Small and Wallin both claimed third set super tiebreak wins at No. 3 and No. 4, while Mink provided the final point for the Rams at No. 6.
Tansy Graves & Johnson were narrowly edged in third set superbreakers at No. 1 and No. 5 respectively. Mac Graves was narrowly defeated at No. 2 in a close two sets.
