Junior Torii Greiskalns became Cornell’s all-time leader for caused turnovers in Sunday’s 16-4 men’s lacrosse victory over Anderson (Ind.) at Van Metre Field at Ash Park.
Greiskalns achieved the feat with a career-best seven caused turnovers Sunday, boosting his career total to 92. He passed Tory Terbilcox (90 from 2015-18) for No. 1 on the program’s all-time list.
The Rams posted their largest victory margin this season and climbed to 3-3 overall.
Coach Lane Zierten’s squad established a new single-game school record with 70 ground balls, breaking the previous mark of 69 in 2021.
Ash Hoelscher also had a big day for the Rams with 16 ground balls and 17 faceoff wins in 18 chances. Greiskalns collected 14 ground balls.
Luke Baldwin led Cornell’s attack with five goals and one assist. First-year Charley Kobets scored three times and assisted on five others. Matt Norwood had three goals, followed by Brandon Warnke with two.
The Rams accounted for 13 total assists in the game, including two each by Caden Lynch and Ryan Devine.
Winning goalie Thomas Cook finished with seven saves in 47 minutes of work.
Cornell outscored Anderson (2-4) by a 12-3 margin in the second half, striking for six goals each in the third and fourth quarters.
Earlier in the week, the Rams took a 16-5 loss to Aurora
Trailing 13-0 into the third period, the Rams (2-3) outscored Aurora 5-3 over the final 23 minutes of regulation, highlighted by a string of four unanswered goals to start the fourth quarter.
Luke Baldwin and Caden Lynch netted two goals apiece to pace the Rams, who held a 42-30 advantage in ground balls. The Spartans (2-3), a 15-win team a year ago, capitalized on 32 Cornell turnovers to take the road win.
Brandon Warnke tallied one goal and one assist, while Charley Kobets also contributed an assist for Cornell. Ash Hoelscher went 11-of-19 in faceoffs. Tori Greiskalns posted team-highs of eight ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Cornell goalie Thomas Cook earned eight saves over the first three quarters. Nathan Diveley saved two shots and allowed one goal in the final period.
