Firefighters had a busy week amidst a red flag warning setting out field fires. This fire happened Tuesday, Feb. 27, along Hwy. 1’s intersection with Linn Ridge Road. Multiple fire crews were paged to the scene as they raced to contain the field fire from spreading. Agencies responding included Martelle Fire, Anamosa Fire, Springville Fire, Solon Fire, Mechanicsville Fire, Lisbon Fire, Mount Vernon Fire, Linn County Fire and Rescue, Lisbon Mount Vernon Ambulance Service, Mount Vernon-Lisbon Police Department and Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
Strong winds helped the fire develop thick black smoke before firefighters were able to contain the blaze and put out some hot spots.
Crews also responded to a field fire in rural Martelle Monday, Feb. 26, another red flag day for fires.
