Senior India Smith netted a career-high six goals and became Cornell’s all-time leader in caused turnovers during Saturday’s 21-5 season-opening rout at Augustana.
The Rams charged out of the gates with nine unanswered goals to start the match and claimed their fourth straight series win over the Vikings.
Smith, the reigning MWLC Defensive Player of the Year, enjoyed her best offensive outing as a Ram with the six goals while also dishing one assist. She also collected seven ground balls.
Smith’s three caused turnovers moved her past Sydney Cooper (2015-18) as the program’s new career record holder with 64.
Cece Zanoni also had a big day with five goals, three assists and six ground balls for the Rams, who outshot the home team, 37-14, and owned a 48-32 advantage in ground balls.
Anna Methe provided four goals and seven ground balls. Sabrina Ibanez scored three times and handed out three assists. Meg Lewis added two goals and Brynn Miroslavich scored once. Ilsa Jeffery shared team-high honors with seven ground balls.
Starting goalie Hannah Miech posted seven saves. Kathryn Andries worked five scoreless minutes in relief.
The Rams led 6-0 after one quarter and padded the margin to 12-2 by halftime.
