Cornell’s men’s tennis team added two more victories against nonconference foes Saturday, posting a 9-0 shutout over Simpson, and a comeback win, 5-4 over Saint Ambrose in the arena of the Small Athletic and Wellness Center.
The Rams (7-2) swept all seven contested matches against the Storm. Alexander Hadler-Strumlauf and August Krahn went 2-0 in their matches against the Storm, while Federico Polidori, Zachary Ong, Trent Devore and Evan Davis each picked up a victory. Edwin Holyoake completed the sweep with a third set tiebreak win at No. 3, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7.
Hadler-Strumlauf, the reigning Midwest Conference Performer of the Week, boosted his career wins total to 99 after his 3-1 day. He won twice at No. 1 singles, and narrowly fell against the Bees in the afternoon 8-6 with partner Polidori.
Krahn/Ong paired for their second win of the day in doubles, posting a decisive 8-1 win a No. 3 in the afternoon. Devore/Mills Arnold dropped their first doubles match as partners this spring in a tiebreak 8-7(2) at No. 2
Down 1-3 in the meet, Hadler-Strumlauf, Polidori and Arnold provided straight set wins at No. 1, No. 2 & No. 5 respectively. Devore clinched the match for the Rams with a come from behind win at No. 3, 4-6, 6-0, 6-4.
