Cornell’s Isaac VanWestrienen tuned up for next week’s Midwest Conference Championships with another scintillating performance Saturday at the Liz Wuertz Invitational, hosted by Wartburg College.
The sophomore star established new meet, facility and school records by clocking a blazing time of 8:09.60 in winning the men’s 3000-meter run. VanWestrienen beat his nearest competitor by more than 33 seconds and took down his own program standard of 8:16.91, set earlier this season.

Sophomore Ava Claussen-Tubbs ran a strong second in the 800 (2:20.69). She was only .64 seconds behind the winning time of Wartburg’s Ellie Meyer.
On the men’s side, freshman Hadley Beaty earned a fourth-place effort in the long jump (20-0.50) and was sixth in the 200 (22.72). Fisher Isaacson ran fifth in the 800 (1:56.56).
