In libraries we often celebrate special Heritage Months. These celebrations give us an opportunity to explore books about a heritage different from our own or to delve deeper into our own heritage. For example, February is Black Heritage Month. To celebrate, we put up displays highlighting authors and illustrators of color.
To expand the offerings available to patrons during our heritage months, we have decided to also include heritage-themed Story Time to Go bags. They will still follow the Story Time format used on Thursday mornings in the library. Each bag will include three books about the topic, two songs or fingerplays, and a simple craft. The bags will be clearly marked Heritage at the top. We are labeling them because some of the books may be longer, have more abstract concepts, and may appeal to emerging readers more than to toddlers.
The Story Time to Go Bags are located on the first floor near the Book Sale Shelf. They are not in the Children’s Room but clearly marked and easy to spot.
