On Jan. 27, the Mount Vernon Mustang Archery team hosted their annual Chuck Hallier Memorial Bullseye and 3D Tournament. There were teams from all over Eastern Iowa who traveled in including local schools like Solon, Springville, and Prairie. Volunteers and Coaches had to wait until after basketball and wrestling, which were postponed due to weather, to finish to set up the ranges in the High School gym and Middle School which made for a late night. As the tournament kicked off, the seamless execution and smooth operation of the event were a testament to the hard work and commitment of the volunteers. Their efforts resulted in a successful and fun tournament, creating a wonderful experience for participants and spectators alike. This weekend, the Mustang Archers traveled to Springville and will compete at Prairie on Feb. 10.
Chuck Hallier Bullseye Tournament:
The elementary team was on fire and finished in first place with a score of 2,792. For the elementary girls, Kenlyn Grenis led the way with a score of 252 for a first-place finish. Rowan Gillespie also finished with a 252 and ended up in second through tie breakers. Natalie Ford placed third with a 247 and Hayden Hedges finished sixth with a 235. For the boys, Kellen Johanningmeier earned a fourth-place finish with a 247 and Laine Pospisil finished sixth with a score of 246.
For the middle school team, they continued their strong season finishing in first place with a team score of 3,229. Serenity Robards shot a personal best 279 for earn first place. For the boys, Paul Morris earned first place with a score of 282. Gunner Steinberg shot a 277 and finished third. Christopher Schneider has a great tournament, shooting a 271 and finishing in sixth place.
The high school had a team score of 3,244 and finished in fourth place.
Chuck Hallier 3D Tournament:
The middle school team was able to earn first place with a team score of 1, 618. The High School team shot a 1, 571 and finished in sixth place. As we do not have an elementary team, Makenna Harris and Nathaniel Cook both shot individually during the tournaments and both finished in third place! Finn Plattner (second), Weston Haskell (third) and Jake Shady (fifth) medaled for the middle school boys. For the girls, Serenity Robards (second) and Trulie Breidinger (fourth) medaled. For the High School, Lainey Kelly took home fifth place with a score of 272.
