In only his third collegiate competition, freshman Hadley Beaty is Cornell’s new indoor record holder in the men’s long jump.
Beaty busted a 32-year old program record with an impressive leap of 22 feet, 5 inches at Saturday’s Dubuque Shootout at A.Y. McDonald Track. He achieved the mark on his fifth attempt, taking down Mike Donnelly’s school standard of 21-11.75, set in 1992.
Beaty finished third in the event and added a fifth-place showing in the 200 (22.91) for Cornell’s men, who took third in the seven-team field with 59 points.
Sophomore Isaac vanWestrienen had a near-record performance in the men’s mile, posting a winning time of 4:11.32 that ranks No. 7 nationally this indoor season. He came with .30 seconds of Kirkwood Donavin’s school record in 2011.
Gabe Soda ran a strong second in the mile, crossing in 4:21.66.
Isaak Hutchings was runner-up in the 800 (1:58.13) and Tyler Bilskie crossed second in the 3000 (8:56.24). The Rams received a fourth-place effort from Fisher Isaacson in the 800 (1:59.46).
Cornell’s women crowned three individual champions and placed fourth in the team race with 43.5 points.
Sophomore Ava Claussen-Tubbs raced to victory in the 800 with a Top-35 NCAA mark of 2:19.60. She edged Loras’ Frankie Chaidez at the finish line by a mere .11 seconds.
Alyza Koppes dominated the 3000 in 10:39.56, finishing 77 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. Hailey Carolan won the high jump with a height of 5-5.
Katie Lammers took runner-up in the mile with a mark of 5:39.52.
