The Linn County Board of Supervisors is accepting applications to fill several voluntary appointments on County boards and commissions. Serving on a County board or commission is an excellent way to get involved with local government and contribute to the quality of life in Linn County.
Food Systems Council – four-year terms
There are two openings on the Food Systems Council. Individuals are appointed for four-year terms and may not serve more than two consecutive terms.
The Food Systems Council advises on policies and programs to make the Linn County food system economically, environmentally, and socially sustainable. Members typically have expertise in various segments of the food system including banking, real estate, distribution, education, health, law, marketing, processing, procurement, production, or waste management.
Electrical Board of Appeals – three-year terms
There is one opening on the Electrical Board of Appeals. Individuals are appointed for three-year terms and may serve consecutive terms without limitation. The Electrical Board of Appeals is seeking a utility company employee to fill this vacancy.
The Electrical Board of Appeals hears and decides on the suitability of alternate methods and materials for compliance with the National Electrical Code as adopted by Linn County. The board also participates in code development and makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors.
Mechanical Board of Appeals – four-year terms
There are two openings on the Mechanical Board of Appeals. Individuals are appointed for three-year terms and may serve consecutive terms without limitation.
The Mechanical Board of Appeals hears and decides on the suitability of alternate methods and materials for compliance with the Linn County Mechanical Code. The board also participates in code development and makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors.
Plumbing Board of Appeals – three-year terms
There are two openings on the Plumbing Board of Appeals. Individuals are appointed for three-year terms and may serve consecutive terms without limitation.
The Plumbing Board of Appeals hears and decides on the suitability of alternate methods and materials for compliance with the Linn County Plumbing Code. The board also participates in code development and makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors.
Ryan White Home Health Advisory Committee – three-year terms
There are three openings on the Ryan White Home Health Advisory Committee. Individuals are appointed for three-year terms and may serve two consecutive three-year terms but then must rotate off the committee for a minimum of one year.
The Ryan White Home Health Advisory Committee advises on the delivery of services to individuals and families to enhance independence and improve family functioning for the healthcare needs of persons living with HIV disease by funding primary healthcare and support services.
Sustainability & Resiliency Advisory Committee – two-year terms
There are two openings on the Sustainability & Resiliency Advisory Committee. Individuals are appointed for two-year terms and may serve up to three consecutive terms. The advisory committee includes at least one member from each County supervisor district and at least one member from each climate-vulnerable community listed in Linn County’s climate resolution(s). The committee is comprised of community stakeholders from the industrial, commercial, and residential sectors.
The Sustainability & Resiliency Advisory Committee completes an annual greenhouse gas inventory for Linn County, with support from Linn County Sustainability staff and the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives. The inventory helps Linn County review and monitor progress toward the goals and objectives of Linn County’s climate resolutions.
Applicants for these openings must be residents of Linn County and may submit an online application available on the Linn County website at LinnCountyIowa.gov.
