Vaughn Lee Schweitzer
December 20, 1949 – October 11, 2023
Vaughn was born in Cedar Rapids, son of Sidney Schweitzer and Doris Lubben, natives of Monticello. In 1953 the family moved to Mt. Vernon. Vaughn completed grades K-12, graduating with the class of 1968. He played football, baseball, basketball and track while a student at MVHS. He played football and participated in track for Luther College in Decorah and graduated from Luther with degrees in business and religion in 1972.
He and Cathryn Weist of North Dakota were married in July 1972, and they moved to Cedar Rapids a few years later. In 1982 he furthered his education at the University of Iowa with a degree in Computer Science. The family lived in Cedar Rapids until 1991 when they moved to the Minneapolis area.
Vaughn’s physical and mental health slowly declined following a heart attack in 2015. He is survived by Cathy, his wife of 51 years, who was truly devoted to his care, his son Aaron and grandson Kellan of Savage, Minn., granddaughters Clara and Allie Burkauskas, and their father Chris, of North Carolina; his sister Sandra Haven of California. Vaughn was preceded in death by his parents and beloved daughter Anne.
