One more win for the outright Class A, District 5 crown.
One more win for an undefeated regular season.
(And the last Lisbon team to go undefeated in the regular season won a state title in 2011, for what it’s worth.)
“We’ve had that conversation,” Lisbon Coach Dylan Hastings said. “We are doing a good job of getting better every day.
“But our ultimate goal is to make a big playoff push. We want to be district champs, be 8-0. It is a big deal for the school, the community.”
Lisbon (7-0, 6-0) welcomes Van Buren County (3-4, 3-3) for Senior Night on Friday, Oct. 13, at Walmer Field. It is the final regular-season game.
The Lions are coming off a 63-14 shakedown of the Bears on Friday, Oct. 6 in Danville.
“Another great week, a total team effort,” Hastings said.
It was an old-fashioned beat down, as the Lions rolled up 298 rushing yards and held the Bears to 24. Lisbon led 56-0 before Danville scored twice with the continuous clock ticking in the second half.
Hastings put a lot of that on the offensive line (Evan Coleman, Blake Harms, Jacob Walerius, Indiana Ferguson, Jonah Reiling) for pushing the Bears around, and picking up their blitzes.
“(The Bears) were among the leaders in our class in tackles for loss, and we knew they were going to try and bring pressure,” Hastings said. “Our O-line was locked in all week. They kept their eyes up and picked up blitzing linebackers.”
Hastings said the Lion O-line is a close unit and “fun to be around.”
“It is a brotherhood they have,” Hastings said. “They know their job, their role.
“But outside of practice, they are hanging out with one another, and picking on one another. They are a good group of boys with a solid friendship.”
And it seems to work out for the Lisbon offense. Henry Neymeyer ran for 133 yards and Tiernan Boots added 117 on the ground. QB Dakota Clark had 39 rushing yards and was 8-of-9 passing for 116 yards. Boots was his favorite target with five catches for 40 yards.
Those three – Neymeyer, Boots and Clark — accounted for eight touchdowns, with the ninth claimed by Mason Lehmer, who had a 46-yard pick-6.
“Just another week for us,” Hastings said.
Senior Night will be special for the Coach, who started at Lisbon when this group was in middle school.
“Little sentimental for me,” Hastings said. “I came up with these guys, and watched them develop into outstanding young men. These kids have worked their tails off and continue to get better at everything they do.
“(Friday) is a pretty special opportunity for the seniors. It is their last district game, and they get to play it on our field.”
And with a win, the seniors will get another home game in the playoffs. And maybe more than one.
“That’s the ultimate goal, but we’ve got to focus on this week,” Hastings said.
