The 150th anniversary of the founding of the town of Morley, Iowa, formerly Viroqua, will be celebrated September 2 and 3, 2023. Family friendly activities – most of which are free – will include a 1PM parade, kids’ games, a cake walk and a dance featuring Crosscut, a Monticello ensemble. Food trucks including Willie Ray’s BBQ, a nationally known barbeque purveyor from Marion; That’s So Cheezy, as well as Wick’s Pizzeria from Wyoming and Two Scoops out of Anamosa will be available for food purchase on Saturday,
Events begin Saturday at 11AM with games and parade line-up at noon. There will be an auction of donated items, lawn games for all ages, rock painting, tie dying and more. A cake walk will take place and the day’s events will conclude with Crosscut performing for a free dance from 5 – 8PM. Lawn chairs and coolers are welcome.
Sunday activities will start at 10 AM with church services at the Methodist Church with Pastor Barb Krueger presiding. The Morley Fire Department will serve lunch and Two Scoops will have ice cream for sale. The Morley Alumni are invited to a get together and everyone is invited to share Morley history. There will be a Talent Show at 1:30 PM and participants can begin signing up on Saturday.
Opportunities for volunteering and enjoying the fun are available for every age level incorporating parade participants, assisting with kids’ activities, playing/helping with BINGO and other chances to help.
