The City of Lisbon’s newest park will be joining Silos and Smokestacks as an emerging site.
Drayton Kamberling, Brandon Siggins, Ann Opatz and Rebecca Hess met with Candy Streets from Silos and Smokestacks about the program in the past week. There is no cost to the city and it is a non-binding agreement.
“This is basically the first step in a long process for the plan for this park,” Hess said. “This will allow us to tie into national heritage areas across the country, as well as get help from people in developing the park space, by allowing us to connect with different organizations we can learn from.”
Opatz noted that the project is a collaboration between Lisbon Historic Preservation Commission, Lisbon History Center, the trees board of Lisbon and Lisbon parks and recreation.
As part of the application, the committee had chosen to identify the park as Pleasant Grove Heritage Park.
Council member Sara Nost asked for clarification on where that name had came from, as that hadn’t been discussed previously by council.
Hess explained it was taken from a stone that was on the Steve McElmeel property near the pond, and the name had ties to the family.
“Calling this a heritage area ties into the history and arts as well,” Hess said. “It puts it all under the same umbrella.”
The council made a note to add that to a coming agenda to approve the name.
The council also approved the memorandum of understanding.
