Water main work shifts directions
Lisbon public works director Travis Bagby said water main construction projects shifted directions.
The projects are now working along Second Avenue and School Street, trying to get ahead of the construction work that could begin this summer on the new career technical education wing of the school.
“As we’ve been noting the length it has taken to finish along Washington Street, we were worried if we moved further north along Washington Street, it would impact work being finished ahead of Sauerkraut Days and impact the roads ahead of that summer festival,” Bagby said. “We didn’t want these obstacles ahead of Sauerkraut Days, especially tearing apart an intersection at Washington Street.”
Brecke noted that the timeline was very aggressive, but the project isn’t too far behind, so even with these pivots, they believe the projects will be finished by this fall.
Council approves hearing protection for employees
The City of Lisbon is purchasing hearing protection for city employees, especially those who are using louder equipment.
The devices from Sonetics would have a $9,628 price tag and would allow for purchase of five headsets. The headsets also come with a line of sight built in communication, allowing workers wearing them to communicate with one another without removing the headset.
Council member Mike Williams’ concern was making sure people wear the devices if they are purchased.
“Trust me, I’m in favor of this grant and purchase as someone who deals with ringing ears when I’m answering the phone these days,” Williams said. “I just think people have to wear them if we purchase them.”
Public works director Travis Bagby said this is a number one safety thing for city crews that needs to be pursued, and he discussed this with multiple cities at a conference this year.
Ordinance change adopted for lot definition
The Lisbon City Council has approved an ordinance change on the position of accessory buildings on lots of one acre or larger.
The ordinance allows the accessory structures to reside in the front or side yard, as long as they follow the front and side yard setbacks.
The ordinance had been approved by planning and zoning and no comments were received against it at the hearing or prior to the meetings. The council approved not only the first reading, but suspended the rules and advanced to a third and final reading to adopt the ordinance.
