It was another week of huge wins for the Lisbon Lions softball team, with the squad picking up a total of seven wins and three losses for the week.
Monday, June 12 The Lions made short work of the home team in a doubleheader with the Alburnett Pirates, taking both games by the scores of 17-7 and 4-1.
Game One
The first game of the matchup was a 17-7 blowout, propelled, in part, by Blair Baltes going 4-for-5, including a home run and four RBIs.
Kali Nelson added five hits and an RBI to the effort.
Lisbon had 26 hits compared to Alburnett’s nine.
Ryleigh Allgood had another successful stint at the mound, throwing seven innings and striking out five.
Game Two
The second contest was a closer game, with the Lions coming out on top 4-1. Allgood had two hits and three stolen bases, as well as pitching five innings and fanning four.
Addi Petersen had two RBIs in the Lisbon win.
Wednesday, June 14
The Lions won a tighter race two nights later in Anamosa, taking the game with the Blue Raiders by a score of 6-4.
Ella Clark had two key hits, each doubles, one of which produced an RBI.
Peyton Robinson, Chloe Clausen, Kali Nelson, and Addi Petersen drummed up the other four RBIs for the Lions.
Ryleigh Allgood once again took the helm as pitcher, pitching for seven innings and striking out five.
Thursday, June 15 Game One
The Lions topped the Starmont Stars 11-1 in the first game of a doubleheader played Thursday at Lisbon.
Starmont was first on the scoreboard with their one run in the second inning. After that, it was all Lions, with one run in the second, four in the third, two in the fourth, three in the fifth inning and one more in the sixth inning.
Robinson provided the most hits for the Lions with four in the game. Allgood provided an additional three hits in the game, and Kaitlynn Hasselbusch, Nelson and Clausen each had a hit. Nelson had three trips around the bases for the Lions. Gaiser and Robinson had two runs. Clausen, Ella Clark, Moehlman and Kamryn Kahl had solo runs.
Allgood’s pitching arm earned the win with 12 strikeouts in the seven-inning showing.
Game two
It only took three innings to retire the Stars in the second game of the doubleheader for the Lions, as they cruised to an 18-0 shutout.
The Lions pounded 10 runs in the first inning and eight in the second during the home win.
Robinson and Clark had three runs. Nelson, Allgood, Kahl, Hasselbusch and Gabi Moehlman each had two. Gaiser and Clausen provided the remaining runs.
Addi Petersen picked up the win for the Lions, with three strikeouts in the game.
Fort Dodge tournamentThe Lions weekend concluded with a trek to the Dodgers Invite softball tournament in Fort Dodge, where they ended up getting one win and two losses.
Game one
The Lions had to wade into three extra innings to get a win against Winterset 5-4.
Lisbon was first on the scoreboard, hammering home two runs in the first inning. Winterset added one in the second inning. In the fourth inning, both squads tied the game, with Lisbon adding one more run and Winterset adding two. At the end of the seventh inning, the scores remained tied, forcing an eighth inning. Both Winterset and Lisbon added an additional run in the eighth, and the game was scoreless in the ninth. Lisbon eked out one more run in the 10th inning.
Robinson had four hits in her five at bats for the Lions, and Allgood had two in her three at bats. Robinson, Clausen, Ella Clark, Moehlman and Kahl all rounded the bases for the Lions in the win.
Allgood claimed the win, pitching all 10 innings with eight hits and three strikeouts.
Game two
The Lions faced Iowa City Regina, where they lost 8-5. Regina was first on the scoreboard, hammering home six runs in the first three innings. Robinson’s home run in the third inning put the Lions on the scoreboard, and they added another in the fourth inning. Regina slammed home two more runs in the fifth inning, and the Lions were able to round the bases three more times that same inning. Neither team scored additional runs in the next innings.
Allgood, Robinson, Nelson and Baltes all recorded two hits in the game. Robinson, Gaiser, Nelson all had single runs, while Allgood rounded the bases twice.
Petersen took the loss for the Lions, pitching four innings with 13 hits and five runs earned with no strikeouts.
Game three
The Lions lost to Cedar Rapids Kennedy 3-0 Saturday, June 17.
Kennedy earned all their runs at the top of the sixth inning, while keeping the Lions from scoring.
It was a low hit affair for the Lions as well, with only Nelson and Ella Clark getting singles.
Allgood took the loss, with six hits and four strikeouts over the course of six innings pitched.
