On May 4, we concluded the 90th General Assembly, and now we have concluded May. I have had a busy month interacting with constituents, working, and spending time with my family. If I haven’t had the chance to catch you out and about in District 42, please reach out, and I’d be happy to connect. Below I will touch on some of the happenings of this month. I hope you all continue to have a happy, healthy, and safe summer.
Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a federal holiday designed to honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Let us never forget their ultimate sacrifice. Land of the free because of the brave.
My wife and I attended the Central City Fire Department’s Annual Memorial Day pancake breakfast and the Coggon Fire Department’s Omelet Breakfast on May 7. We are always happy to support the community and our firefighters. Not only did we have outstanding food at both, but we had great conversations with friends and attendees. Thank you to our District 42 firefighters. We appreciate all you do to keep us safe.
On May 23, I returned to the Iowa College for the Blind campus with Jim Hobart (Historic Renovation) in Vinton. I have been working with Jim for about a year now on the redevelopment/revitalization of this area and was happy to see all of the progress. Our meeting included local and state leaders like Debi Durham, Director of the Iowa Economic Development Authority, Chris Ward, Vinton City Administrator, and Kate Robertson, the Executive Director for Economic Development in Benton and Iowa counties. Together, we will pursue opportunities for funding, development, and growth for all the communities in the district.
Feel free to contact me with any comments, questions, or concerns regarding how I can best serve you ([email protected]). I look forward to another great month of representing the people of District 42.
