The Mount Vernon varsity girls track and field team has opened the 2023 campaign.
The squad, under the guidance of Kory Swart as head coach, is already making its mark early in the season.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how this group will come together by the end of the year,” Swart said.
“I feel like the strength of this team is our depth, which will help us be much more competitive at our meets. As long as we can stay healthy, it will be a fun team to watch.”
Swart, in his fourth year, is pretty familiar with his team at this point, but he’s especially familiar with two of his athletes, his daughters, Laura and Kiersten Swart, a senior and a freshman, respectively.
“It’s been fun coaching both Laura and Kiersten,” Swart said. “I don’t know if they’d say the same thing all the time.
“They both work really hard and are very coachable, which is also what is great about the kids on the team.
The team, said Swart, “really do a wonderful job pushing and supporting each other every day.”
