Lisbon students will attend school Friday, April 7, as the no school day for Good Friday has been taken as a make-up snow day for the district.
Superintendent Autumn Pino said as of Monday, March 6, the district had utilized 45 hours of late starts or snow days for the year, with the district having a cushion of 45.5 hours in the calendar.
“I am suggesting we take Good Friday as a make-up snow day to give us an additional full day of cushion for any inclement weather,” Pino said.
If the district has to take more than a day and a half due to snow days or inclement weather, the district will look at removing some early out days to make up some of the hours, as opposed to adding more days at the end of the school calendar.
“When I think of the learning loss and what is most productive for our students, it’s a good decision to keep students in Good Friday as opposed to after Memorial Day,” Pino said.
School board member Allan Mallie asked if exemptions would be allowed for students who have religious issues, like a Good Friday service they usually attend in early afternoons. Pino said that would be the case.
