The Cornell women’s lacrosse team opened its season with a 15-10 neutral-site loss to William Penn University Friday.
Freshman Brynn Miroslavich’s first collegiate goal at the 13-minute mark in the first quarter sparked a 3-0 run by the Rams. Seven goals by the Statesmen to one by sophomore Cece Zanoni had the Rams trailing 7-4 after one quarter.
The Rams fell behind 11-5 at halftime with junior Anna Methe netting Cornell’s lone goal in the second period.
The second half was a back-and-forth battle as the Rams accounted for five goals to the Statesmen’s four. Freshman Sabrina Ibanez and junior Cheyenne Greenenwald each had a goal in the third to bring the Rams within 12-7.
Zanoni secured the last three goals for the Rams and finished with four for the match. Methe had two goals and one assist.
