The Mount Vernon girls’ varsity wrestling squad continued its successful ways last week, early in the team’s first year of existence, winning a pair of duals at Marion before an impressive showing at the Wilton Girls Tournament over the weekend.
Thursday, Dec. 15The team first traveled to Marion to challenge their hosts and West Delaware, Manchester, getting the better of both teams to win the night.
Against Marion, the Mustangs had wins from Sarah Peterson (140), Kaylee Kintzel (145), Libby Dix (170), Aly Lashley (235), Elizabeth Morf (110), Eli Shebetka (120), Audrey Tucker (125), Kasey Nevins (130), andd Ashlynn Carter-Shook (170).
Against West Delaware, the Mustangs had wins from Kintzel, Addison Gookin (155), Dix, Lashley, Morf, Kiersten Swart (115) and Shebetka.
Saturday, Dec. 17The girls traveled to Wilton this past Saturday, competing in the Wilton Girls Tournament, with the team once again finding a lot of success individually and taking first place overall.
“Going into this tournament, with 16 teams, I thought we had have a challenge ahead of us, but these girls embraced the challenge, and competed extremely hard,” said Mustangs head coach Trevor Trende.
“I am so proud of all 17 girls and how they have embraced this journey and challenge so far, as we wrap up the the first half of the season,” he said.
“I’m so proud of our girls for winning the Wilton invitational.”
The Mustangs had runner uo finishes from Claire Gaffney, Ryleigh Allgood and Shebetka, a third place finish from Kintzel, a fourth place finish from Gracie Pickney, Mae Stoopss and Gookin, a fifth place finish by Ella Krob and Kasey Nevins and a sixth place finish by Sara Peterson.
