The Lisbon boys varsity basketball team dropped a pair of games last week, starting at home with a photo-finish two-point loss to Calamus-Wheatland, into being bested 61-49 on the road against Easton Valley three nights later.
The week ended with the Lions sporting a record of 3-4.
Tuesday, Dec. 13The Lions hosted the Cal-Wheat Warriors, dropping the tight contest 46-44.
“Cal-Wheat did a nice job keeping us out of the paint, and forced us to shoot from the outside,” said Lions head coach Levi Montague. “We had a lot of good looks but not many fell through the hoop. Our defense kept us in the game.”
The home team trailed just 22-24 at the half, ultimately losing by the same margin of two points.
Michael Gadberry led the Lions in scoring with 18 points. The junior added five rebounds, four assists, and three steals to his performance.
Luke Czarnecki, a senior, put up 11 points to go along with 10 boards and two blocks.
Sophomore Grayson Wollum contributed six points, nine rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.
Cohen Kamaus, a senior, chipped in with four points, three rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
Friday, Dec. 16 Gadberry again led the way for the team in their 61-49 loss to the Easton Valley River Hawks on the road, scoring 16 points along with three assists.
“We played well for three quarters,” Coach Montague said. “We led for most of the first half, back and fourth in the third quarter. Easton Valley made a run in the fourth, and knocked down their free throws late.”
The Lions enjoyed a lead after each of the first two quarters, taking a 26-21 advantage into the half.
This lit a spark under the River Hawks, who outscored the visiting Lions 14-6 and 26-17 in the next two periods to win it by 12.
Czarnecki put up 14 points along with pulling down 13 rebounds to lead both teams in that category.
Wollum was good for eight points, seven rebounds, and two blocks.
