Cornell began a new era of track & field in record-setting fashion under first-year head coach Jerry Monner at the four-team Grinnell Opener Friday night.
Freshman Hailey Carolan broke the school record in the women’s high jump in a dazzling collegiate debut, while senior Natalie McAllister equaled the program record in the 60-meter hurdles.
Carolan cleared a winning height of 5-5 in the high jump. She took down all-American Libby Schnoor’s record of 5-3.25, set in 2018.
McAllister, a four-time Midwest Conference champion last season, picked up where she left off with a quick winning time of 9.24 seconds in the 60 hurdles. She matched the school record set by Jessica Axen in 2006.
Caitlyne Mar raced to victory in the 60 dash (8.51). McAllister was runner-up in the high jump (5-3) and third in the shot put (37-2.25). Carolan crossed second in the 60 hurdles (10.17).
Cornell’s women received third-place efforts from Sidney Brown in the 200 (27.94) and high jump (4-9). Samantha Warhoe took third in the weight throw (37-5.25).
On the men’s side, sophomore Niko Platre placed second out of 16 runners in the 60 (7.29). Doniel Greiner finished third (7.38) in the event. Nathan Watters was third in the shot put (40-1.25).
The Rams placed second in both women’s (1:54.26) and men’s (1:35.81) 4×200 relays.
