Cornell’s women’s basketball team erupted for 48 second-half points and rallied for a 73-63 Midwest Conference win at Lake Forest Saturday afternoon.
The Rams picked up their second conference road win of the week and kept pace with Lawrence as the only unbeatens in MWC play.
Cornell drained a season-high 11 3-point goals, four coming from senior guard Madison Osborn who led all scorers with 18 points – one shy of her career high.
The Rams charged back from a 41-31 deficit early in the third quarter. Cornell caught fire from long range during a 13-2 spurt. Megan Gandrup hit a 3-pointer and then A’ryn Jackson canned back-to-back triples that pushed the Rams ahead 44-43.
Tied 47-47 through three quarters, Cornell opened the final period with consecutive 3-pointers from Osborn and Jackson, giving the Rams a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. After Lake Forest pulled within 62-60, Gandrup answered with a clutch 3-pointer with 2:06 remaining that ultimately finished off the Foresters (1-5 overall, 0-3 MWC).
Kali March enjoyed another solid all-around performance with 11 points, seven assists and four steals. Gandrup and Jackson added 11 and nine points, respectively, each sinking three 3-pointers.
Cornell’s balanced attack had Ani’ja Simmons with eight points, followed by Madison Wauters and Rachael Adewusi with seven apiece. Simmons, Wauters and Adewusi shared team-high rebounding honors with six boards apiece.
Earlier in the week, the Rams win 68-56.
Wauters led the balanced attack with 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Rams, who held a decisive 41-31 advantage on the boards.
The Rams also received strong production from their veteran guard court, highlighted by March’s 14 points, eight assists, five steals and three blocked shots. Osborn netted 10 points and Gandrup scored nine with three 3-point goals.
Rachael Adewusi provided a boost off the bench with 11 points and seven rebounds. Ani’ja Simmons had a game-high nine rebounds.
Cornell was in control most of the way after building a 22-10 lead early in the second quarter. The Rams increased the margin to 15 points with a 7-0 run in the final period.
