The Lisbon American Legion will be matching donations made to the Lisbon Marching Band uniforms cause through the next month. The group has pledged to match up to $1,000 to help purchase new uniforms for the Lisbon Marching Band.
David Prasil, former school board member and member of the Cyclops American Legion, noted that the current uniforms used by the marching band were purchased when he first joined the school board.
Band director Joseph Arch said many of the uniforms are just a few months younger than he is.
The band is also utilizing funds from the Hwy. 1 Marching Band Classic this fall to help with ordering new uniforms. The order for new uniforms is being made now, as the uniforms take up to 180 days to arrive, and the band would like to be wearing them for Lisbon’s Memorial Day services.
“The company will send someone to measure all of our current students for uniforms that will fit them,” Arch said.
Arch said he will also be placing an order for roughly a third more uniforms to help with the growing marching band.
Since he has been director, the marching band has more than doubled in size, and he anticipates another 35 to 40 students in junior high will pursue marching band at the high school levels. The current size of the marching band is 50 students.
“These are good situations we are finding ourselves in,” said activities director Brandon Horman. “We’re fortunate to have so many students interested in band, and to have donors like the American Legion contributing to the new uniform purchases. “
If people are interested in further supporting the purchases, they are encouraged to mail checks to Lisbon School, specifying the amount is to go towards new uniform purchases or support of the fine arts programs.
The Lisbon Marching Band and pep band perform at the majority of home football and home basketball contests during the season. The marching band has received Division I ratings at state contest in the past several years, this year for the first time as a Class 2A band based on numbers of students in the school.
