A bid of $1,106,500 was approved for renovations to the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Police Department.
Septagon Construction of Cedar Rapids was the lowest of four bidders on the project, all within $100,000 of one another.
Mount Vernon city administrator Chris Nosbisch said that the bids came in at roughly 10 percent over the engineer’s estimate, covered in the contingency cost of the project.
A total of $666,000 is coming from American Rescue Plan Act funding for the project, with the rest of the cost coming from the bond the city recently applied.
Work will begin this winter, with a slated completion date of October 2023. This phase of construction will convert portions of the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Police Department to establish a garage.
City planner Laura Eckles had a site plan to be approved which highlighted changes to the exterior of the building to build a sally port to the building to establish the garage space not currently in design plans. The site work meets the planning and zoning elements for the city.
