The Lisbon Lions hosted Midland Tuesday, Nov. 22, to open the 2022-23 season, ending the night on top 42-33.
The Lions outscored the Eagles in all but the fourth period of the game, when the Eagles bested them 13-9. It was not enough for the visiting team to turn things around.
“It was a really awesome team win,” said Lions head coach Diamond (Boyd) Ruth. “We had several people step up and into their roles.
“Addy Happel ran the offense, and was aggressive. Peyton Robinson and Kali Nelson led the defensive battle with their talk and guided their team to play a tough defense when we needed it the most,” Ruth said.
Happel finished the game with four points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Robinson contributed five points, five boards, an assist, and a steal. Nelson scored eight points, pulled in seven rebounds, and had two assists and two steals.
“Chloe Clausen stepped up and scored in ways she needed to,” said Ruth.
Clausen led the team in scoring with 20 points, and pulled in nine boards.
“Ella Clark was a huge addition defensively, and got to the free throw line. And Addie Clark hit two huge free throws to keep the momentum on our side,” the coach said.
Ella, a senior, went 3-4 from the free throw line, and had five steals. Addie, a sophomore, was 2-2 from the line with three rebounds and a steal.
“We played a team game and were encouraging, supportive and positive the entire game, with everyone having the same vision. It was awesome, and a great team win for the first game of the season,” said Ruth.
The Lions could be next caught in action Thursday night at home, and Friday at Prince of Peace.
