An almost undefeated season. With just under two minutes in the game, it looked like it might even go into overtime against Harlan on Friday.
Harlan defended their title, however, with one final touchdown in the final two minutes, dashing the Mustangs hopes of having an undefeated season and setting Mount Vernon home as runners-up.
It was still a remarkable season for Mount Vernon, having bested Solon twice and advancing against several tough competitors and giving Harlan a heck of a fight for their eventual win.

The Mount Vernon Mustangs were the runner-up at the Class 3A State football tournament, losing to defending champions Harlan 30-23.
