John Joseph (Joe) Woods, 75, of Lisbon, passed away Sunday, Nov. 13, 2022, at UnityPoint St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
A Celebration of Life was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon. Visitation was held from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial: St. John’s Cemetery, Lisbon where full military honors were conducted. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in John’s name and may be directed to the family. Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services of Mount Vernon is assisting the family.
John Joseph (Joe), was born Dec. 3, 1946, the son of John Frank and Margaret Pitlik Woods. He grew up in Mount Vernon where he attended school. John graduated from Mount Vernon High School. He attended one semester of college, before joining the U.S. Army to serve in Vietnam. John was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1972. John was united in marriage to Cleanne Maeder-Craven in 1976. The couple made their home in Cedar Rapids and later in Lisbon. John worked at Square D (now Schneider) until his retirement. John enjoyed fishing, bowling and loved talking to family and friends for hours on end.
John is survived by his daughter, Wendy Skildum (Mat) of Beloit, Wis.; step-daughters, Shelanne Gibbs (Terry) of Center Point, DeeDee Murray (Brett) of Waterloo, Joanne Hartnett of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; close friends, Ricki Onstott, Mike Connors, Duane Lange, Tim Powers; and numerous other friends and relatives.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Cleanne; a son, J.J.; and two sisters, Shirley and Kay.
