In an effort to improve imaging technology at UnityPoint Health – Jones Regional Medical Center (JRMC), a new 128-slice Computed Tomography (CT) scanner has been installed. The new CT unit, a Siemens Somatom go.Top, replaces an existing 16-slice machine.
CT scans provide internal images of the body to help diagnose a wide range of medical conditions. The new scanner at JRMC is equipped with advanced technology that offers patients faster and more comfortable scans, while producing clearer images. Patients with metal implants will also see improvements in image quality due to advanced software within the unit.
“Having this new machine in our Imaging Department will allow us to better serve patients in our community. The new scanner has features that reduce the radiation dose to patients. We are seeing reduction in radiation by half in some exams,” said Lora Hunt, JRMC Imaging Services manager.
The new CT scanner went into service for patients on November 1. CT scans at JRMC are available 24/7 for emergent studies. Routine scans can be scheduled during normal staffed hours.
