Roadfood: An Eater’s Guide is in it’s 10th edition. When Jane and Michael Stern wrote the first edition 40 years ago, there were no food blogs, no Pinterest, no James Beard Award, and very few food shows. People didn’t photograph their food in a restaurant and post it on Facebook.
In this pre-internet world, they had a dream of showing Americans that the exceptional food in their community was worthy of notice. They have designed their cookbook into regions so that you can plan your next road trip with road food in mind. In each region states are listed alphabetically. In those states, the restaurants are also listed alphabetically — including the restaurants web address, (if they have one), phone number, address, hours of operation, and then a dollar sign signifying how much you can expect to pay for a meal. Following this basic information is a review.
