The Mount Vernon Marching Mustangs have had a phenomenal season once again this year, bringing home their eighth consecutive Division I rating at the state competition Saturday, Oct. 8.
The band also participated in the first annual Hwy. 1 Marching Band Classic last week, performing at Walmer Field in Lisbon.
Last Saturday, the Mustangs placed second at the Waukee Marching Invitational. They also received an outstanding drum major award at the competition.
Earlier in the season, the Marching Mustangs took second place finishes at Linn-Mar, Prairie and Five Seasons marching band tournaments. They also earned awards for best guard, best drums and people’s choice awards at the Five Seasons tournament.
The band participated in the Mount Pleasant Marching Band Invitational and Fort Madison competitions Sept. 17.
