The Mount Vernon Water Tower will need to be taken out of service beginning Sept. 26.
Sues, the city’s maintenance contractor for the water tower, will be washing the interior of the tower, requiring the tower to be drained and remain empty during the service period.
While that won’t impact normal water usage, the city is asking citizens to refrain from heavy water usage from Sept. 26 through Oct. 4, as the city will be drawing water directly from the wells.
“Citizens could notice some small changes in water pressure at home while the tower is off-line,” Nosbisch said.
Nosbisch said that nearby fire departments and emergency services have been notified of the time the tower is slated to be down and pumper trucks will be filled in both Lisbon and Mount Vernon in case of emergencies.
Citizens may notice a lot of water flowing down First Street Sept 26, as the water tower is draining.
If all goes according to plan, work could be finished as early as Sept. 28, and the water tower would be back in service by Friday, Sept. 30.
