As soon as my article appeared in the Sun on the transition to Republic, I learned more on glass recycling. This is all thanks to citizen Braden Rood. I received notes of inquiry about this from at least Jean Pyles, Deb Herrmann and Scott Rose.
In my article, I mentioned that, for now, GLASSS IS TRASH, until we got some long term program set up for glass recycling in our city limits.
However, there is another choice.
I contacted Can Shed at both of their Cedar Rapids locations of 412116th Ave. SW and 370 44th St. Marion. I assume many of our citizens have been taking deposit items to them for the 5 cents deposits-like cans and plastics.
Can Shed DOES take all glass as well-deposit and non deposit. Details on this can be found at www.canshed.com or [email protected]
Of course, the local thing to do is to donate to the Booster Club trailer any deposit glass. This was totally news to me that Can Shed would accept non deposit glass for recycling as well. You still have to take the items to Can Shed, and they need to be cleaned to allow recycling.
We still want a long term solution to this challenge, but at least this gives our citizens an opportunity to continue all their old recycling habits-with a little more effort.
There are options for glass recycling
