The Mustangs volleyball squad improved to 7-1 last week, first winning in non-conference action to Regina Catholic, and then finishing second place at the Shirley Ryan Invitational.
Tuesday, Aug. 30
First to test the Mustangs was Regina Catholic, who went home empty-handed when the home team won in three sets, 25-11, 25-9 and 25-18.
Madeleine Miller tallied 32 assists and 10 digs, while sophomore Chloe Meester again brought the dynamite with 16 kills. Older sister Emma Meester got in on the family business with eight of her own.
Kameron Brand had 15 digs on the defensive side of things, while Parker Whitham had four blocks.

The Mustangs were the hosts of the annual Shirley Ryan Invitational, where they struck down four opponents before falling short in the championship round to the Knights of Assumption.
“Going 4-1 at the very tough Shirley Ryan Classic is a nice accomplishment,” said head coach Maggie Willems. Our win over North Scott in pool play was a great match. We played well in each phase of the game and really looked like a team typically does late in the season.
“Against Davenport Assumption, we struggled with focus and execution early in the game. We will look forward to playing them again.”
