The VFW Women’s Auxiliary donated $1,800 to support the planting of spruce trees at the Lisbon Cemetery at the Monday, Aug. 8, city council meeting.
Faye Alger, member of the auxiliary, said the money was designated to purchase blue spruce trees. The organization was deciding which causes to donate to, and the city’s cemetery trees was one they wanted to support.
Mayor Doug O’Connor said the donation was much appreciated and the cemetery committee will be meeting in the future to start discussions and planning for improvements.
City administrator Brandon Siggins also set Sept. 12 for a hearing to increase the number of committee members from five to nine on the current tree board.
The increase is to allow who want to help with projects involving the Nature Park to join. Siggins suggested the tree board could also be looking for grants for tree replacement in the city due to derecho damage.
