Iowa-Based Non-Profit campaigns for funds to more effectively connect Iowans with eating disorder resources
The Eating Disorder Coalition of Iowa is partnering with Thrivent for a 1:1 matching fundraiser to create a text-based app
Eating Disorder Coalition of Iowa (EDCI) is developing a text-based application to connect Iowans with crucial resources to improve the awareness and prevention of eating disorders. Fundraising is underway to assist in the development and maintenance of the text-line.
Once operational, anyone will be able to text our dedicated line to receive information and resources regarding eating disorders. “EDCI has identified a significant need to better connect Iowans with information, resources and treatment providers,” according to EDCI President, Sara Schwatken, PhD “The number one piece of feedback that we receive from our community is that there is not enough awareness regarding eating disorders — including the harmful effects of diet culture and the impact of these concerns on the individual and family. A text-based application would be a new opportunity to quickly, efficiently and effectively get up-to-date resources in the hands of individuals, caregivers, educators and providers.”
EDCI hopes to coordinate with city and state organizations to ensure that this text number becomes a widely-used resource for individuals, organizations and mental/physical health centers to reference and share.
To contribute to the cause, all support is welcome. We are currently undergoing a matching campaign with the Thrivent Member Network in which the Iowa/Southern Minnesota Region will provide a $1 match for every $1 donated through this online campaign up to a maximum match of $10,000. The campaign will run from August 1st to October 1st, 2022.
