The Lisbon Lions have secured another golden ticket.
The softball squad, led as always by head coach Bob Bunting, defeated Clarksville Monday Jul. 11 by a score of 4-1, propelling the team to the 1A softball state championship the following Tuesday in Fort Dodge.
The game got off to a quiet start, remaining scoreless until the bottom of the third inning, when the Lions scored all four of their runs. Ryleigh Allgood was key in the inning with two RBIs. Peyton Robinson provided two hits, and scored a run herself. Blair Baltes stepped to the plate with two outs and drove in two runs with a double to center field.
Allgood was also key on the mound, pitching for seven innings and striking out seven.
Sierra Vance was the game’s losing pitcher, throwing seven innings and two strikeouts.
The Lions would enter Tuesday’s game seeded third, and would face off with number six Twin Cedars.
