It rained, but it didn’t cancel too many activities for this year’s Heritage Days Festival in Mount Vernon.
The festival had events scheduled from Wednesday, July 6, to Saturday, July 9.
The kick-off party at Lester Buresh Community Family Wellness Center moved activities indoors due to the threat of rain, but that didn’t keep attendance down, as hundreds of youth and adults came to enjoy dinner, inflatables and other activities.
Friday’s events at Kernoustie were postponed, with the exception of the fireworks display. Mount Vernon Bank and Trust president David Ryan explained the rain most of the day Friday had them reschedule thier Kids Fun Run to First Street Community Field Saturday, July 9.
“We probably would have been safe to hold the events Friday, but it was a concern to have upwards of 300 trampling the course after a solid rain,” Ryan said.
The Kids Fun Run moving to Saturday lead to an afternoon packed with children’s activities in uptown Mount Vernon.
Happy birthday Mount Vernon!
