The Mount Vernon varsity baseball team ended its regular season on a high note with a win against Clear Creek-Amana in game two of a home doubleheader.
The road to that win featured a few bumps, but the Mustangs can next be caught in action Friday, Jul. 8, at Beckman Sports Complex in West Delaware for the first round of postseason action. The game is at 7 p.m.
Tuesday, June 28 Game One
A doubleheader at Maquoketa found the visiting Mount Vernon squad in competition, but unable to pull off a win. The Cardinals took the first contest 5-2. Colin Bentley, a freshman, featured heavily in the team’s offense with two hits — one a single — and a stolen base.
Junior Mustang Ryne Moeller shouldered the loss, pitching for five innings and striking out two.
Game Two The Cardinals also seized game two by a score of 6-2.
Mustang sophomore Austin Mercer took the loss on the mound, pitching four innings, and fanning two.
Thursday, June 30Game One
The Mustangs hosted Clear Creek-Amana, with mixed results. The Clippers took the first of two 8-1.
Game TwoThe Mustangs bounced back for the second game, their last home stand of the season.
Carson Sansenbach pitched seven innings, striking out six in the win.
