The Mount Vernon varsity softball team suffered their first loss of the season in an otherwise successful week.
Monday, May 30The Mustangs began with a 10-0 win over the visiting Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks, with the win going to pitcher Jenna Sprague. Sprague pitched for five innings and struck out four.
Tuesday, May 31 The next night, the Mustangs hosted Independence, winning the first game 4-0. Sprague again took the win with seven innings pitched, and 12 strikeouts. The team scraped by in game two 4-3. Sprague put together three hits in the second game.
Wednesday, June 1The Mustangs traveled Wednesday to take on the Central DeWitt Sabers, striking early and hard with seven runs in the first and five more in the second, going on to win 13-0.
Jenna Sprague was again the winning pitcher, throwing six innings and striking out six.
Saturday, June 4The Mustangs played two more games on Saturday, taking the first game over Pella 14-7 before losing 2-1 to Norwalk in their first loss of the season.
