Did any of you take advantage of the weather on Saturday, May 14? It was the perfect day to plant a tree. More so because that perfectly sunny day was followed by a light rain.
Thanks to the generosity of local donors (Ace Hardware, Helios, Hills Bank, Lynch Ford, Mount Vernon Bank, P&K Supply, Gary’s Foods, Gary andBrenda Richman-Kiefer), the Friends of Palisades-Kepler State Park (Pals of Palisades) were able to take advantage of that day. They purchased six new, robust, native trees for the campground. The trees replaced several that were taken out by the derecho, and were deemed necessary to ensure shade for the campsites in the upcoming years.
The work was done by area volunteers and DNR staff. The campground hosts and DNR staff will tend to watering the trees over the summer, but for now the spring rains are doing their job.
