Cornell women’s lacrosse took it down to the wire at Hamline University in a battle for higher seeding in the upcoming MWLC Tournament, just getting edged in the final quarter, 10-8.
Sydney Swift was the first to get in the scoring column Saturday after a pass from teammate Raquel Gassman.
Hamline (5-6, 4-0 MWLC) struck back quickly, but both teams found success early making for a 3-3 tie after the first quarter.
Cece Zanoni got things started for the Rams (6-9, 1-4 MWLC) in the second quarter after scoring off an assist from Anna Methe. Methe was a continuous force for Cornell, scoring two goals and an assist on the day.
Senior Nina Deer finished a hat trick in the second quarter, giving the Rams a 6-4 lead after the first half. Deer went on to score four goals in the game.
A neck and neck third quarter found Cornell with an 8-6 lead, but Hamline struck back with four unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to walk away with the win.
Maddie Althoff played the entire 60 minutes in the net for the Rams, saving six total shots and picking up six ground balls.
