Linn County Public Health (LCPH) is observing Sexual Health Awareness Month (also known as STI Awareness Month) throughout April with free at-home testing and promotional activities which remind people that “Sexual Health IS Health” and should be part of everyone’s routine medical care.
“This whole month is about celebrating healthy lifestyles. Educating sexually-active people about the risks of unprotected sex and the symptoms of STI’s is part of public health’s core mission,” says Heather Meador, LCPH Clinical Branch supervisor. “That’s why we are encouraging residents to get tested and treated for infections such as HIV, syphilis, chlamydia and gonorrhea. We’re doing all we can to make it easy and affordable.”
Throughout the month of April free at-home STI test kits are available upon request. During the week of April 10 through April 16 free testing will be available in the LCPH clinic with or without an appointment, during normal clinic hours – 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday – Friday. Clinic staff will also be doing outreach activities, including promoting their services at local colleges and businesses.
To request a free at-home test kit or schedule a confidential appointment with the clinic, call 319-892-6093 or email [email protected].
