Linn County Public Health (LCPH) is pleased to announce that Anne H. Carter has joined the agency as its inaugural Health Equity Program Manager.
“We’re very excited to have Anne join Linn County Public Health and look forward to the wonderful contributions she is sure to make to the agency and all residents of the county,” said Dr. Pramod Dwivedi, director of Linn County Public Health. “It’s an added bonus that she begins her work now, as we observe National Minority Health Month.”
As the nucleus of the 10 Essential Public Health Services and the Board of Health’s position statement, “Racism as a Public Health Crisis,” LCPH is working to remove obstacles to health such as systemic racism, discrimination, poverty, and their consequences, including access to health care, housing, and health inequities. This position will promote health equity by improving policies, practices, partnerships and resources.
In this newly created role, Carter will be responsible for addressing structural barriers to health. That includes leading the development of LCPH strategies that foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive agency, through internal and external programs and initiatives.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to shift my work to the public sector and build on the relationships I have established in the community,” said Carter. “Those partnerships are essential for ensuring equitable access to resources and addressing disparate health outcomes.”
Carter has more than 25 years of experience in corporate leadership in the retail, banking, and energy sectors. In 2012, she returned to her Iowa hometown, Cedar Rapids, and joined Alliant Energy. While there, she held leadership roles in Diversity and Inclusion, Energy Efficiency, and Recruitment.
A graduate of Yale, Anne is dedicated to community service. She is currently a board member for Advocates for Social Justice, Orchestra Iowa, and UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s. Anne also serves on the Policy Committee for the Creating Safe, Equitable and Thriving (SET) Communities Fund, the Faith and Medicine Task Force for MedQuarter, and the Linn County Make It OK Steering Team.
