Lisbon ended up second in the state duals, coming up short against the Lions rival Don Bosco.
“Don Bosco is awfully tough to beat,” said Lisbon wrestling coach Brad Smith. “They’ve got so much balance, and really outstanding wrestlers. I think we competed as well as we could have.”
Lisbon won against Wilton (66-12) and West Sioux (43-30) at the state dual championships on Wednesday, before being bested by Don Bosco in the championship round (38-25).
In the duals versus Wilton, the Lions had wins from Indy Ferguson (220), Wyatt Smith (285), Wesley Sadler (106), Brandon Paez (120), Quincy Happel (126), Tiernan Boots (132), Cade Siebrecht (138), Indy Harbaugh (145), Junior Krob (152), Lincoln Holub (160), Max Kohl (170) and Jamien Moore (195).
Smith said in the second round, the Lions had a 21-0 advantage going into the competition, “so that was a pretty big win for us.”
Against West Sioux, the Lions had wins from Smith, Sadler, Paez, Boots, Siebrecht, Holub, Kohl and Moore.
When it came against the Don Bosco showdown, Lisbon had wins from Paez, Happel, Siebrecht, Holub, Kohl and Smith.
“It was respectable,” Smith said. “We gave them a battle.”
