Lisbon Schools will be increasing their substitute teacher pay to help try and attract more substitute teachers to work at the district.
The current rate for substitute teacher pay at Lisbon was $110, Lisbon Schools superintendent Pat Hocking said, and substitute central is offering a rate of roughly $126 per day.
Substitute teacher pay was going to be increased by an additional $25 a day to $135 a day. That rate would put Lisbon higher than surrounding schools and would get the district to where the substitute rate should be, Hocking said.
There would also be $25 paid to teachers who help with covering a class that impacts a planning period for the teacher or when their students are involved in a special period to teach an additional course. That would only apply to this current school year as the district is dealing with a shortage of substitute teachers.
This should help attract more substitute teachers, noted Lisbon secondary principal Aaron Becker, as this would put Lisbon on an even playing field to retain subs or get others to apply to the district.
The board also set the substitute rate for SELCC to be $10.5 per hour.
