Zachary Cornwell, 29, Cedar Rapids, and Nicholas Michalicek, 28, Cedar Rapids, were injured in a single vehicle crash on Hoosier Creek Road at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22. Cornwell and Michalicek were transported to hospitals for treatment with non-life-threatening injuries by Area Ambulance Service. Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
According to Sgt. R. Crossser with the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Cornwell was westbound in a white 1996 Honda Civic along Hoosier Creek Road. As he was driving, he lost control of the vehicle, overcorrected and entered the south ditch, rolling the vehicle onto its top in a field.
Cornwell was cited with failure to maintain control and for not wearing his seatbelt. Michalicek was cited for not wearing his seatbelt.
No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
Ely Fire Department also responded to the crash.
